Leon I. Blankstein, President and CEO, was one of the original organizers and founders of American Business Bank, which is a commercial business bank specializing in serving the middle market business community.
After obtaining a B.S. in Economics from USC in 1981, Mr. Blankstein began his banking career as a Management Trainee in the Commercial Loan Department at Bank of America where he was quickly promoted to Loan Officer. He stayed at Bank of America two years before accepting a position as a Corporate Banking Officer at 1st Business Bank.
Mr. Blankstein’s career at 1st Business Bank spanned 14 years, during which time he was promoted to Vice President/Group Manager in the corporate downtown office. He completed the last few years of his career with 1st Business Bank assisting with the growth of the San Fernando Valley Regional Office.
After Mellon Bank purchased 1st Business Bank in 1997, Mr. Blankstein and four other senior banking officers left 1st Business Bank to form American Business Bank. Mr. Blankstein and his partners personally raised the more than $14.2 million used to capitalize American Business Bank. This was the second largest management driven capitalization in California history at the time.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr. Blankstein was a member of the Lions Club in Gardena for approximately ten years. He is currently on the Board of the Jewish Home for the Aging. His family is involved with raising funds for both the Ronald McDonald House and for cancer research.
